Like many of you, my childhood Christmas memories are a magical thread I hold dear in my heart. The vibrant tree, adorned with twinkling lights, stood as a symbol of festive anticipation.
The cherished gatherings of loved ones and midnight mass further heightened the spirit of joy. Amidst all of our traditions, my favorite, of course, was the exhilarating rush downstairs on Christmas morning, eager to see the presents nestled beneath the tree. It was always so beautiful in the early morning light!
During the unwrapping frenzy, my mother would gracefully open practical gifts from my dad— perhaps a frying pan, a pressure cooker, or an electric blanket. My mom was always grateful, yet now I know she was missing that twinkle of surprise.
However, I fondly remember one year when she received a Black and Decker Dustbuster (a trendsetter in the '80s), but there was also a mystery gift for her with no identified giver.
